The Legionnaires' Standard Thermometer Kit, also known as the Legionella thermometer kit, is designed to combat the growth of legionella bacteria. It comes in a protective PVC zip pouch, featuring the ETI Therma 1 thermometer, probes, and a complimentary traceable certificate of calibration. Offering outstanding performance at an excellent value, the Standard Legionnaire's Thermometer Kit includes:

  • 1 x 221-041 Therma 1 thermometer

  • 1 x 133-372 Heavy Duty PTFE wire probe
  • 1 x 830-037 Zip Pouch

Incorrect water temperature is a crucial risk factor for legionella growth, as these bacteria multiply in temperatures ranging from 20 to 45 °C. A common control method involves storing hot water above 60 °C and distributing it at temperatures exceeding 50 °C, with caution to prevent scalding. Cold water should be maintained below 20 °C.

This Standard Legionnaire's Thermometer Kit is versatile, enabling the monitoring of both standing water and the surfaces of pipes and tanks within the water system. The penetration probe can also assess the temperature of tap water.

For accurate readings, immerse the penetration probe to a minimum depth of 25mm. The ribbon surface probe can be used for pipes and tanks, while the wire probe reaches inaccessible areas. This kit includes a traceable certificate of calibration.

Current legislation mandates employers or individuals in control of premises to organize a risk assessment. The revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) significantly expands its guidance on legionella bacteria control in water.

The code now applies to all workplace hot and cold water systems, irrespective of capacity, eliminating the prior exclusion of domestic systems based on a 300-litre limit. While domestic systems may pose risks, the code primarily addresses risks arising from work activities.

This legal responsibility applies to all employers managing premises with hot/cold water systems or a wet cooling system, necessitating the identification and prevention or control of any risk of contamination.
